DOHA, Qatar March 28

Arabic language television stations reported Friday that U.S. missile struck a market in western Baghdad, killing more than 50 people.

Al Arabiya television said at least 52 people died in the Friday afternoon attack on the market in a residential area. Al Jazeera television put the death toll at 55.

Al Jazeera showed the injured, many of them children, lying in hospital beds with bandages on theur heads and faces. One boy had a blood-soaked bandage on his nose and cried softly as a man and woman sobbed.
